What is the History of Agrasen ki Baoli?

The baoli was built during Maharaja Agrasen’s reign, however there are no clear historical records of when it was created. Later in the 14th century, it was reconstructed by the Agrawal community, who are believed to be descendants of Maharaja Agrasen.

The Agrasen ki Baoli was restored several times, including during the reigns of the Tughlaq dynasty (1321–1414) and the Lodhi Dynasty (1451–1526) and in each reconstruction, something new was added to the baoli.

In earlier times, it was more than just a water reservoir; it was also a place where women could relax and get away from the hot sun and heat of Delhi. It was like a community area back then, the ideal place to spend time. Sometimes the arched cubicles present there were used for the purpose of religious activities like performing ceremonies or functions.
